MICHAEL VAN GERWEN will face Peter Wright in the final of the PDC Darts World Championship on New Year’s Day.
The showdown will be a repeat of the 2014 championship decider which MVG won.
Tonight at the Alexandra Palace, he saw off Nathan Aspinall 6-3 in a contest that never caught fire. Wednesday’s final will be the Dutch star’s fifth.
Earlier, ‘Snakebite’ Peter Wright defeated Gerwyn Price 6-3. The Welshman was fancied to make the championship decider but never really got going while Wright averaged 98.39, hitting 16 maximums.
There was seemingly some tension between the players and no handshake at the end.
