Liverpool set to stick with under-fire Brendan Rodgers - reports

The Liverpool boss saw his side suffer an embarrassing 6-1 loss to Stoke on the final day of the season.

Updated at 15.30

LIVERPOOL HAVE NO plans to dismiss Brendan Rodgers as manager, according to the latest widespread reports.

Fenway Sports Group, the owners of the club, are expected to ignore supporter unrest and remain loyal to the Northern Irish manager, as they prepare to review a largely disappointing campaign in which the club finished sixth — a significant drop from coming second last season, despite spending £115million in transfer fees during the summer.

As recently as last week, Rodgers insisted he was “150%” certain that he would be Liverpool manager next season.

However, an embarrassing 6-1 final-day loss to Stoke cast further doubt on his future, as did Rodgers’ comments after the match in question, as he stated: “If the owners want me to go, I’ll go.”

Meanwhile, one individual who has been linked with a return to Liverpool in recent times, Napoli boss Rafa Benitez, looks set to take over as manager of Real Madrid.

They need to look at the whole process of signing players. Last season didn’t work for them. Lost one of the best players in the world and didn’t replace him in anyway. He knows how to get a team playing decent football but needs to put together a stronger defense. In fairness I thought Lovren although over priced was a very good defender but it just hasn’t worked out. Needs to get a defensive coach in to sort of that problem and they are in bad need of a striker.

Brendans a fxcking idiot, he persists with Emre at left back when hes a capable midfielder and better than Allen. He persists with the Henderson/Allen combo which is the weakest midfield ive ever seen liverpool have, period. He persists with having one of the most prolific goal scoring midfielders ever play a defensive role. He persists with Adam lallana who couldn’t beat an egg let alone his opposite number. He threw away the league last year against Chelsea when all he had to do was play more defensive and try counter. He couldn’t win the league with Suarez and Sturridge when they were scoring for giggles. Hes also spent £200+ miliion in 3 years……
He has til Christmas, the honeymoon is truly over.

Can was doing very well at right back. Lallana is a talent. We can’t forget what happened last season, it won’t do the club any good to let him go now.. Give him full control of transfers this season and if at the end of next year he’s not doing any better, then sack him.

The funny thing is that the squad Liverpool have is probably the 5th best in England and they basically finished there. When u take into account wages and transfers Liverpool have spent less in the last 5 years (net spend) than the top four teams above and therefore have finished outside the top four. I wouldn’t blame Rodgers too much. They need a serious investment, around 150million net spend with top wages offered to make top 4 next year otherwise it’ll be 5th or 6th again

Agreed, wages is where it’s at. Man City got bought out in 2008 it took them till 2011 to get into the top four. The difference between the first 3 years and the last 3(excluding last summer) is that they went from buying young potential talent for big fees to buying proven talent with big wages.
In the space of 12 months from summer2010 they brought in Silva Toure Dzeko Kolarov Nasri Aguero, a year on from that then they got a firm foothold in the top four and a league title.
