WEST HAM ARE in the market for a new manager after deciding not to renew Sam Allaryce’s contract.
The Hammers, who lost 2-0 to Newcastle United to finish 12th in the Premier League table, announced the news just three minutes after the final game of the season had ended.
Allardyce has been at the London club the past four years and won promotion from the Championship in his first season. However, the former Bolton boss has been sacked after a reported falling out with owners David Gold and David Sullivan.
“We would like to start by thanking Sam Allardyce for his valuable work since arriving at the Boleyn Ground four years ago,” the statement reads.
“He leaves the Club in a considerably better state then when he arrived and, for that, the Board are truly grateful.
“However, we have made the decision not to renew his contract, so we now have the chance to appoint a new manager with a new philosophy to lead us into two of the most exciting years in our great Club’s history.
Our target is to recruit a manager that will build a team capable of saying a fitting farewell to the Boleyn Ground next year and do justice to the outstanding surrounds we will call home from August 2016.
“We have already been impressed with the quality of candidates that have expressed an interest in the role and fully expect to appoint a manager with the credentials to take this Club on to new heights.”
Former West Ham player Slaven Bilic is the early favourite to replace Allardyce.
Disgraceful. Both of them. I would love to see west ham go down next season. And big sam to do really well with a new club.
Comments like this are the result of sensationalist journalism!!!
Hope West Ham know that almost every club Big Sam has left do worse afterwards. They Treated him horribly.
So you achieve progress by standing still.
You’ve sold it to me!
Good manager, awful way to treat him
This is a joke. He is too good for West Ham.
Ah that’s a joke after the job he did.
Curbs leaving Charlton springs to mind. The west ham way would you stop! !!!!
Big Sam was half football manager half stable hand with Andy Carroll at the club
They’ll probably get relegated next season
Journal, that’s really not accurate! Nice to know journalism is as sensationalist on the otherside of Irish sea as what it is east of it.
Sam was initially brought in to get West Ham promoted (job done) but arguably stayed two years longer than anticipated. WestHam Utd are a footballing team and Sam’s tactics are alien to the supporters. Football is mercenary but West ham will be better for his departure.
Thsnks fir your achievements Sam, promotion and solidity, job done!
What exactly was inaccurate about the story?
Man, just put your top back on
It was common knowledge pretty much from December barring a miracle that Big Sam was leaving at yhe end if the season.
To suggest that just seconds after the whistle was blown someone approached him and told him he was fired is just not true!
What was common knowledge is irrelevant. If he was told a month ago it makes no difference. The news was officially announced 3 minutes after the final whistle. Bad form.
@wolf pack
Read the headline and then read your comment, rightly ir wringly you are clouding the issue. When we are told and when Sam is told are two completely different scenarios. The headline implies, sensationally, that when the whistle was blown, Big Sam was told he was fired. I disagree.
It is you who began clouding the issue with ‘common knowledge’. Show me your evidence which states the time and date Big Sam was sacked by the club prior to today. If you can’t then you are depending on hearsay because the only evidence we have to go on is that which is reported here…an official statement from the club relieving him of his duties three mins after the final whistle. Now show me again where I’m wrong.
An official statement stating that he had been relieved of his duties does not mean he was told seconds after the whistle.
Wolf pack what ever I say won’t convince you and unless Big Sam comes out and says otherwise, what you have to say won’t convince me either.
We clearly just disagree.
Whether he knew or not still doesn’t make it any better. The match wasn’t three minutes finished, fans weren’t even on their way home and the players weren’t even washed.
Totally unprofessional.
@Wolf pack. The BBC are reporting that Big Sam was informed on Friday, he himself stated that he intended to leave also.
Anthony the supporters at the club knew. The lads in the dressing room knew. Big Sam knew. All relevant parties to the story knew.
Whether people on here think Big Sam should go or whether WestHam should be relegated is obviously their opinion but people have been drawn to this forum (and maybe influenced) by the headline which is, inaccurate.
Don’t where west ham fans get off thinking they are too good for the likes or allardyce and curbishley. All this nonsense of West ham playing football on the ground with lovely passing and.movement hasn’t been true for the last 40 years. Seem to think they should be playing like barcelona. Truth is west ham have more in common with Newcastle. Never happy with any manager and when the good ones they have get sacked they suffer and are relegated or close to it the following season.
I actually hope both Newcastle and west ham go down next year and stay down. Maybe then they’ll appreciate what a good manager is and that in reality they are not barcelona, but mid table finishes should be seen as successful for seasons for them.
@Eion
Curbishly was a great manager and i dont think he was given enough time. To suggest however that Westham have not played good passing football in forty years is a complete nonsense and you clearly have watched few Westham games during that period. Under Ron Greenwood, John Lyll, Trevor Brooking and pre-Big Sam Westhams football has been free flowing, if not always effective.
With regards to us thinking thst West Ham are Barcelona, i don’t think anyone st thr club would realistically suggest such a thing.
After next season WestHam move to the Olympic stadium and the club has ambition. Despite what you may think, ambition does not mean wanting to remain mid table when youve been mid table for three years, ambition is doing better.
You may not be a lover of Westham but be proportionate in your argument against them.
No harm in ambition at all, and trying to grow the club organically is to be applauded, as opposed to having a wealthy be benefactor bank roll a massive spending spree.
I just haven’t seen any evidence in the modern era to suggest a proven coach such as Alardyce is not good enough for West Ham. If it wasn’t for the speculation surrounding Allardyce, the club might just have continued their push for Europe. Hanging on to a manager like that would be genuine ambition for a club who have been relegated several times since the PL came into existence.
Every fan wants their club to push for Champs league football, fair enough, but let’s have some perspective instead of trying to get a good manager sacked from his Job.
We will disagree Eion because I’m a follower of WestHam and have been on the terraces and you clearly aren’t and therefore we will have different views which I respect.
The reason I initially commented on this forum was because the geadline was diing the club an injustice and was not accurate. Even though the true accounts of yesterday have been revealed people continue to red thumb.
The headline was inaccurate and emotive!
Id rather red thumbs speaking the truth than green thumbs knowingly backing a false hood because its popular to do so.
He knew already apparently. Nice headline!
Thanks Nick, I’ve taken a battering on here.
Have really been hoping someone would come in and buy Villa from Randy Lerner, but when you see Chairmen like Ashley or these guys in west ham I worry about what sort of person will Take over.
