STEPHEN GLEESON CONTINUED his fine form with Birmingham in the Championship this season, as he scored a long-range strike in his sideโs 2-2 draw with Middlesbrough last night.
The Dublin-born midfielder has enjoyed a fine season at club level, scoring five goals in 45 appearances.
Gleeson is considered at best an outside contender for Martin OโNeillโs Euro 2016 panel, though he did make the final squad for the recent friendlies with Switzerland and Slovakia, yet was an unused sub in both games.
There were also a number of other Irish players on target this weekend in Englandโs second tier.
Shane Duffyโs header from a corner gave Blackburn a 1-0 win over Rotherham in a game in which promising Meath-born midfielder Darragh Lenihan also completed 90 minutes.
Ireland international striker David McGoldrick scored his first goal since August in Ipswichโs 3-2 win over MK Dons.
Another Irish striker, Joe Mason, was on target, as Wolves drew 1-1 at Nottingham Forest.
And finally, Stephen Quinn scored an impressive long-distance strike, but it proved little more than a consolation, as Reading were beaten 2-1 by Preston.

If heโs half as good as his father heโll be the best player in the SPL by a long way
