Chael Sonnen expects Jose Aldo to 'run through' Conor McGregor

“I don’t think it’s a close fight.”

CONOR McGREGOR’S UFC featherweight title shot is just over five weeks away, but Chael Sonnen believes it won’t end well for the Dubliner.

McGregor will take on defending champion Jose Aldo in the main event at UFC 189 in Las Vegas on Saturday, 11 July.

Many experts are tipping McGregor to end Aldo’s ten-year undefeated run when the pair lock horns at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.

However, Sonnen isn’t one of them. In fact, the former UFC middleweight and light-heavyweight title challenger has told ‘The Jon Anik and Kenny Florian Podcast’ that it should be an easy night for the champion.

Sonnen, who’s currently serving a two-year suspension from mixed martial arts due to multiple failed drug tests, said: “I’ve never totally been on the McGregor bandwagon. I love the entertainment value, I don’t necessarily buy into the skillset.

“I don’t think it’s a close fight. I just think Aldo runs through him. That’s not a knock to Conor, I just have that much respect for Aldo.”

When is the last time Aldo won by knock out?
In his last fight a wrestler went the distance and almost won by going toe to toe with Aldo.
I think everything about McGregor will but aldo of his game.
He has the range to stand off Aldo and avoid the famous leg kicks but has the speed and range of strikes to counter anything Aldo trys to throw.

He is deluded. Conors confidence is scary.. I’d say even Aldo at this stage is doubting himself. Conor believes know one can’t beat him.. And it’s hard not to agree with him

Sonnen is a sensationalist. He was as a fighter, he is as a pundit. He is entitled to his opinion as are we. I feel his opinion actually reflects the opinions of a lot of people in the MMA world. After each fight, more and more people realise how skilled and dangerous conor really is. In my opinion this fight will be no different. Conor will outstrike José and finish him within the distance. We’ll find out on July 11th who’s right.

After Aldo voicing his opinion that fighters are not getting paid enough and in need of a union , I think the pressure is further on Aldo – it’s a must win for him for if he loses it ends his income. Aldo , I’m sure I’ll do what he can to win and the fuel burning longer for s better financial life. But Conor is a prodigy and I
In my mind the only fighter that can fight coming out of Irekand. His skill are amazing. In saying that Aldo has so much experience but the end result is Conor lifting the belt because of how great a fighter he is
