UEFA HAS CONFIRMED that there will be a minute’s silence before tonight’s Europa League final between Manchester United and Ajax.
United cancelled their pre-match press conference yesterday in the wake of Monday’s attack at the Manchester Arena after 22 people, including children, were killed.
Uefa also confirmed that United’s players will wear black armbands during the game which takes place in Stockholm.
European football’s governing body also said in a statement:
The opening ceremony will also be considerably reduced as a mark of respect for the victims of the Manchester attack.

“This will mean that Swedish artists Axwell Ingrosso will now not be performing before the final.”
And rightly so #Manchester – There is a light that never goes out
@Mark Nugent: Wow Mark – that is so profound. God Bless you sir.
@Old Gabby Johnson: thanks Gabby although I can not take the credit it’s important that we pass it on.
Good stuff mark. That song was just on radio when driving to wo
*work
@Mark Nugent: Nice line alright. Bit ironic that Morrissey is in a bit of hot water over comments he made about the Islamic terrorist attack in Manchester. The usual suspects are getting their knickers in a twist.
@Mark Nugent: Lfc and Sydney fc, already wore black armbands and held a minutes silence as a mark of respect for the victims this morning. UEFA had nothing to do with that match, It was a spontaneous gesture on the part of the 2 teams.
@Just Me: I wonder what did they do for the thousand or so people in Iraq in the last few weeks that died or the hundreds that died in Syria – or just today 34 libyan migrants died trying to get to Europe – and these were mostly young women and children.
My word there’s some w** nkers on this
@Teddyzigzagbigbag: I think I’m done with commenting on the Journal. Too many contrary-by-default attention seeking trolls. And no red thumb. It has become a farce. So long…
@Dublin Rover: think I’m with you. I think there may be a setting that you can activate so you don’t see comments.
@Teddyzigzagbigbag:
Is that the “not scrolling down to the bottom of the page” setting?
@Thinck: take the n out of your name. There it is!
@Teddyzigzagbigbag: just mute the trolls. Works great.
@Teddyzigzagbigbag: There is , after they done away with the red thumbs, they introduced that setting especially for the snowflakes.
We’re all just lucky that Laura Whitmore doesn’t appear to be hurt despite being in the same city at the same time. Thank god we still have her instagram/twitter feeds to keep us posted on how much she cares about humanity….
@Thinck: what?
@Jamie:
“Find the light in the dark. We are all stronger than we think”
Thank you Laura
@Thinck: if you don’t care for what she says don’t follow her.
@John Michael Mcdonald:
I don’t follow her, nor do i follow Harry Styles or Niall Horan but that doesn’t prevent me being bashed over the head with their and other celeb reactions….
@Thinck: who cares ? They are entitled to their opinion. Hardly worth getting upset about it
@John Michael Mcdonald:
My point is the amount of coverage these “celebs” are afforded on mainstream news sites is ridiculous. They capitalise on tragedy for their own PR gains.
I’m just here for the comments
RIP.
