AFTER THE CONTROVERSY surrounding Tiernan McCann’s proposed suspension and subsequent appeal, Maurice Deegan was bound to be keeping a close eye on both sets of players this afternoon at Croke Park.
Deegan was called into action to award a couple of black cards to Marc Ó Sé and Ronan McNamee, and he also found himself awarding Tyrone a penalty in the second half.
However it was a penalty they didn’t get that irked the RTÉ panel, with second half substitute Padraig McNulty booked for diving following this incident near the Kerry goal.
Joe Brolly didn’t hold back with his criticism of Deegan for this, and several other calls during the game.
“He did something to Tyrone that normally happens between consenting adults in private”.
His fellow panelist Colm O’Rourke added that while it should have been a penalty, he feels Tyrone’s reputation went ahead of them.
