Tyrone 0-22
Derry 0-11
MICKEY HARTE’S 15th championship campaign in charge of Tyrone got up and running with a facile victory over Derry in Celtic Park.
The double-scores win today means Tyrone head for a heavyweight clash against Donegal in the semi-final on 18 June.
Ulster champions Tyrone had little trouble in seeing off a Derry side that were relegated to Division 3 in the spring.
Derry trailed by three points in the early stages of the second period, but Tyrone turned on the style from that point and coasted to victory.
Tyrone raced into an 0-5 to no score lead in the opening quarter, with Cavanagh (twice), Harte, Conall McCann and Mark Bradley on target.
Niall McLoughlin opened Derry’s account on 16 minutes and they found themselves 0-10 to 0-5 behind at half-time.
Derry had the lead down to three shortly after half-time with Niall Keenan, Enda Lynn and Benny Herron on target.
The Red Hand stepped things up a gear down the stretch and Darren McCurry clipped over three impressive points after arriving off the bench.
Sean Cavanagh curled over five frees during the 70 minutes, while his brother Colm and Lee Brennan rounded off the victory with late scores.

Dire game!
@Sam Walsh: not as bad as corks near miss v Waterford yesterday,count your blessings
apparently there are no easy games in the competitive ulster championship.
@dead right: not that there’s no easy games just you don’t know from one season to the next who’ll win.Leinster Dublin Munster Kerry Connacht 99% it’ll be Mayo Ulster???
@dead right: oh here he goes again
@Jamie: i do it will either be donegal /tyrone beating monaghan in the final and they will only reach the final beacuse they are in the opposite half of the draw.
@dead right: put money on it then
@Jamie: yes I’d say the odds on a donegal/tyrone v monaghan final would be very appealing alright its a certainty every year
@dead right: that’s 3 competitive teams there. Couldn’t tell who’d win. Whereas….
@Peter McGlynn: no Peter it’s 3 teams who play the same dour way which lead to low scoring encounters (please don’t reply by telling me they have put up big scores so far because the teams they played have been scandalous) low scoring games does not mean competitive .
@dead right: but who will win?
@Jamie: Donegal will win Ulster then get dispatched with ease by a top team.
@dead right: put €100 on it then
@dead right: share a pic on your twitter account when you do misses knowitall or are you all talk
@Jamie: and win €1
@Jamie: their is no value in a bet like that now stop acting the bollix.
Ulster is still the most competitive with 3 teams who can win it, connaught have 2 and the other 2 provinces are a no contest
Three games in Ulster, three complete dead rubbers, says it all really.
@JeremyJoeyouknow: the entire Leinster and Munster championships are dead rubbers. Utterly pointless competitions.
@Ciaran Rice: after 3 matches so far ulster is the same
Shocking game, have seen better forwards playing junior football.
