THERE ARE MANY ways to react to what you feel is a poor refereeing performance.
You could slate the officials in the post-match TV interview.
You could make sarcastic comments to the press about how good the performance was.
Or, you could lock the referee into the dressing room until the president of the country orders you to release him.
According to the BBC, Cagatay Sahan and his assistants were held captive under orders from Trabzonspor club president Ibrahim Haciosmanoglu after failing to award his side a late penalty in a 2-2 draw with Gaziantepspor.
And Haciosmanoglu claims he only allowed the officials to leave after a call from the countryโs president Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
To make matters worse for the referee, an angry crowd had gathered outside the stadium waiting for him to leave.
The Turkish FA has launched an investigation into the matter.
Football really is taken too seriously.
Theyโre giving Jose Mourinho ideas. It would make an interesting post-match interview though.
I have been to Turkey 2 or 3 times every year for the past 11 years. The generalisation of the people as barbaric is extremely unfair. They are crazy and passionate about their football but so what? The vast majority of Turkish people that I meet are very nice.
There are idiots in every city in Ireland who throw bottles at people for no reason. That doesnโt mean that we are all barbaric does it?
Too many people have formed an opinion about the Turkish people based on what they read and hear on a British media that simply lives to sensationalise.
So stories like this shouldnโt be reported?
Of course the stories should be reported. The โbarbarianโ comments as used to generalise the people is wrong.
Well, Iโve reread the article above and can find no mention of the word โbarbarianโ. So I donโt know what you are talking about.
It was in a posted comment on the article but appears to have been removed.
