KILKENNY’S TJ REID and Dublin star Jack McCaffrey scooped the prestigious Player of the Year awards at this evening’s GAA/GPA Opel Allstar bash at the convention centre in the capital.
Reid beat off competition from last year’s winner and teammate Richie Hogan for the Hurler of the Year prize, while Tipperary’s ace marksman Seamus Callanan was also in the running.
McCaffrey topped the list in a three-man Dublin football poll, seeing off Philly McMahon and Bernard Brogan for the individual accolade.
It was another landmark season in the black and amber for Reid, who scored a staggering 4-32 en route to Leinster and All-Ireland glory.
Reid, 27, is now at the peak of his powers and he scored decisive goals in the All-Ireland semi-final and final victories over Waterford and Galway respectively.
Reid, also honoured with an Allstar, capped a superb year that also saw the teak-tough forward capture an AIB All-Ireland club medal with Ballyhale Shamrocks in March.
McCaffrey, meanwhile, enjoyed another stellar season in the Sky Blue of Dublin.
The 22-year-old finished the campaign with a second All-Ireland senior medal and he adds the Player of the Year award to his Young Footballer of the Year gong from 2013.
McCaffrey also collected a first Allstar award this evening following an outstanding 2015 championship campaign.
The Clontarf clubman excelled against Kerry in the All-Ireland final, despite suffering with a gastric bug in the days before the game.
McCaffrey scored a vital point against the Kingdom as Dublin claimed a third All-Ireland senior football title in five seasons.
Some start to mccaffreys career, two all Ireland’s with player of the year and young player. He could really go on to be a gaa legend
He’s from Dublin so I doubt it.
Tj Reid, the best left handed hurler of the last 2 decades?
No, JJ Delaney is.
Eoin Larkin ain’t too bad either
Would a given it to brogan . Jacks defending isn’t that great , His attacking is unreal but defensively he isn’t that solid . Tight call . Once it’s a dub who cares
McMahon deserved it
Jesus Ryan now you are an expert on what makes a top class footballer as well. No matter what the topic, you seem to know what’s best for the sportsman in question, whether they are professional or amateur. Funny how the majority never seem to agree with you.
I am an expert .
Philly deserved it but never getting it for what he did . Sad to see one one bitter comment on here Jake. No doubt a sad bitter bogger who hates the dubs.
