DROGHEDA UNITED DEFENCE duo Conor Kane and Kevin Farragher, and midfielder Sean Brennan have all re-signed for the Louth club.
The news of the trio’s commitment for the 2018 campaign comes as the first move made by new manager Tim Clancy.
The 33-year-old defender was named as Pete Mahon’s successor at the helm earlier this month as they prepare for their return to the SSE Airtricity League First Division following their relegation from the top flight.
And Clancy has began to build his squad for the coming season, with the announcement made earlier today.
Farragher was key in 2016, in particular in the play-off against Wexford Youths. His headed effort helped rocket his side into the Premier Division.
His 2017 campaign following the promotion wasn’t quite as memorable however, hampered by injury as he made just 10 appearances across all competitions.
Teenage defender Conor Kane signed for the Drogs last year and will be hoping to build on his promising showing going forward.
He tweeted earlier: ”Delighted to sign back. Can’t wait to get going for pre-season.”
Sean Brennan is the third player to commit his immediate future to Drogheda United.
He’s also had spells at Monaghan United, Shelbourne and Athlone Town, but moved back to United in 2015. He has been a mainstay since.
The club announced the re-signings on Twitter earlier, adding:
“The three were first-team regulars last season and are the first signings under new Drogs boss Tim Clancy.”
In Clancy’s first interview with the club’s official website, he stressed that he’s planning on building long-term structures rather than diving in at the deep end.
“From the meetings I had with the club, I know that they aren’t looking for a quick fix,” he said.
“We want to build something that’s sustainable here. I just can’t wait to get going.”
“I’ve spoken to a number of players already and there is definitely interest there. I expect there will be a number of players from last year’s squad staying on along with some of the lads who have excelled at U19 level.
“If we can bring a few new faces in to join the group, that’ll leave us in good stead for the new campaign.”
