AT THE AGE of 36, Steven Gerrard today announced his retirement from football.
Seen as one of the greatest English players of his generation, the ex-Liverpool midfielder โ who spent his entire career with his hometown club with the exception of the last 18 months as an LA Galaxy player โ won the Champions League, the Uefa Cup, two FA Cups and three league cups during a glittering 17-year professional career on Merseyside.
Unsurprisingly, several former team-mates and opponents have come out to pay tribute to Gerrard since the news broke.
Jamie Carragher
Xabi Alonso
Fernando Torres
Pepe Reina
Jordan Henderson
Michael Owen
Tim Cahill
Gary Lineker
Alan Shearer
Thierry Henry
Barcelona
Javier Zanetti
Kaka

People can have their doubts on Gerrard all they want. Some of the best players in world football have came out to show their appreciation for the man. Shows how much he was respected. Some man in my eyes. Gave me some of the best nights of my life. Carried liverpool for many a year. Thanks for the memories Stevie.
Never carried them to a league title though.
And what player has ever carried a team to a prem title?
Eric Cantona won one on his own.lol
Eric Cantona
Roy Keane
Fabulous player on his day, no denying that.
Was he better than the great midfielders of his generation , Pirlo, Zidane, Viera, Keane, Xavi, Iniesta? Probably not!
All that list were world class Adrian but also very different. Gerrard possessed a skill set range that few could match.
Iโd rather him than Viera to be honest, around 05-07 he was as good as almost anyone though, Iโd say during that period it was himself, Pirlo and Kaka as the top three midfielders in the world
What skill set range did he have that the others didโnt have?
Yes, but never mind all their opinions, itโs the footballing legends that comment here that know better
Lineker had a big interview there and he could have slipped up but he didnโt. Fair play Gary
Oh wow you really are hilairious!

The bitter mancs are out in force talking about slips and league titles, youโd all give anything to have a Gerrard esque player now, someone who could play in any team in the world but whoโll stay loyal through all the bad, and lift the mediocre team around him to European glory. Instead you have a washed up Wayne Rooney, a 35 year old has been and a manager who canโt seem to get all that much out of the most expensive player in the world. Oh and dont forget that Fergie tried to sign Gerrard twice and failed, but you all just like to ignore that fact donโt you!
Many United fans have been shown up at the pack of pathetic gob shites that they are. Itโs been great craic watching the bitterness. Ferguson is gone, get over it.
Steven who ??? โฆ. good luck and no thanks !
Gerrard is a multi millionaire who won major trophies, played at the top level and will be remembered. What will you be remembered forโฆnothing loser
Baz youโre a bit of a weirdo.
What will you be remembered for ? Clown
Yawn
Pass the sick bucket . Over rated
Ha look at the article and the players praising him ya lemon.
โSincerely, bitter United fan.โ
My entire Liverpool life Stevie has been there. Through ups and downs he could push a team on by himself. Cheers for the memories Stevie, itโs been great
