IRISH SPRINTER STEVEN Colvert continues to deny doping accusations despite today receiving a two year ban from athletics following a positive test for recombinant erythropoietin — more commonly known as EPO — in May 2014.
The ban is backdated to 17 June 2014, the date on which he was provisionally suspended.
EPO is usually associated with endurance athletes such as distance runners and cyclists as it boosts the red blood cell count.
The former Irish 200m champion had vowed to do whatever it took to clear his name when the positive test was first announced and today he continued to maintain his innocence.
Using Twitter, the Crusaders athlete said that “miscarriages of justice come in many forms, unfortunately this time it has involved me.”
