HAVING BEEN RUNNERS-UP to Dundalk in each of the last three seasons, Cork Cityโs Steven Beattie insists that second-best will no longer suffice for the Leesiders this year.
The 2017 SSE Airtricity League season begins on Friday night, with City facing a long trip north to Donegal to face Finn Harps. At Oriel Park, Dundalk will begin their bid for a fourth consecutive Premier Division title against Shamrock Rovers.
Beattie, who moved to Cork from Sligo Rovers in July 2015, is anticipating โthe most exciting league to dateโ and he expects the title race to involve more than just Dundalk and Cork City this time. However, he knows that only one outcome will satisfy John Caulfieldโs side.
โAs players, youโre down in Cork City to win leagues, youโre down there to win cups. Thatโs what the fans expect,โ said Beattie, a versatile 28-year-old who has been playing at right-back for Cork City.
โJohn Caulfield is a winner. Thatโs why he brought us down: to win things. Personally itโs a failure if we donโt win the league, thatโs being brutally honest with you. I think the lads in the dressing room feel the exact same way.โ
Spoken like a winner.
Prepare for failure then son
Shamrock Rovers only threat to Cork this year, watch Limerick as well, City should prevail though
โJohn Caulfield is a winnerโ
1 FAI Cup win, with a scuffed goal in the 121st minute, and 3 seasons of being second best makes him a winner? Long Ballfield is a whinger and nothing more.
Mon the town, here we go 4-in-a-row!!
