DONEGAL BOSS RORY Gallagher will be without the services of Stephen McBrearty for the remainder of the inter-county season after the youngster took the decision to travel to America for the summer.
The Donegal Democrat reports that McBrearty informed Gallagher of his decision last weekend and has dropped off the panel ahead of their Ulster championship opener against Antrim at Ballybofey on 21 May.
McBrearty, a minor in 2014, is the younger brother of ace attacker Paddy and a club-mate of county stars Ryan and Eoin McHugh.
He was used sparingly by Gallagher during Donegalโs league campaign โ making substitute appearances against Kerry, Dublin and Tyrone. But he was a key figure for Declan Bonnerโs U21s who lifted the Ulster title last month.
โStephen is gone from the squad,โ Gallagher confirmed to the Donegal News today. โI think he is hoping to do a bit of travelling, but he hasnโt decided which city he will be going to, or which team he will be joining.
โEveryone has to do what they feel is right for them, and I can understand the temptation for the boys to head away.
โWe had a talk with Stephen, and he didnโt really think he was going to play much after not getting a lot of game time in the league. By his own admission, he felt he wasnโt happy with his form during the U21 championship either.
โHe has decided to head away and see a bit of the world.โ
It is believed McBrearty will return from the US in time for Kilcarโs next championship game. He posted six points from play in their 1-15 to 1-12 championship first round win over Gaoth Dobhair last weekend.

Looking forward to Coutinho in this fixture in 2018. Happy Holidays everyone!
@Whatshisname: Canโt wait to see Ozil and Sanchez facing off in the Manchester derby next year. A pity Arsenal wonโt get any money for them.
@Whatshisname: The fact you say happy holidays shows the kind of tool you are.
@Let free speech live: lads not even an arsenal fan man. Just a troll. Better off just muting him
@Let free speech live: Back in the schoolyard I see. Youโre a joke
@Whatshisname: Iโm fond of Arsenal football club myself but you sir are an embarrassment, every time I come on here you are spouting some drivel. Happy xmas anyway, hoping the new year has me reading less of you.
In an โordinaryโ club, Zidaneโs job should not be under threat when you consider all they have won since heโs been in charge but this is Real Madrid where past achievements are soon forgotten so anything can happen.
@Sloop John G: itโs no ordinary club thatโs for sure , the Real Madrid managers head is on the block almost every game . Zidane has credit in the bank but if say Madrid got whipped on Saturday the atmosphere will change . Ancelotti was fire because of a heavy loss to Atletico Madrid at home that he didnโt manage to redress . Under him Real do perform on the crunch days ( especially in finals) and tend to have a much better second half of the season . A win for Real will kick off the resurgence !
Ah jeez Gavan Casey and Ryan Bailey, seriously whoโd ye think ye are? The serious heads on ye with the pouts, the fancy hair doโs and the indoor scarf wearing, and the live link up to some nobody in Madrid. Itโs like yeโre playing yeโr favourite game; โmedia goys r usโ Scarlet for ye in all fairness.
