Gavin insists Dubs captain Cluxton is fit for Kerry clash

Speculation had emerged that the netminder had suffered a hamstring injury.

DUBLIN BOSS JIM Gavin has rubbished suggestions that captain Stephen Cluxton is an injury doubt for next weekend’s All-Ireland football semi-final against Kerry.

Gavin has confirmed that the Dublin netminder is fit despite speculation that he was struggling with a hamstring injury.

Cluxton trained with the team last night as they get set for their battle with the Kingdom in Croke Park on September 1st.

“I don’t know where that story came from but Stephen is good to go,” said Gavin. “He trained last night and came through very well. Himself and Shane (Supple) are in good fettle for goalkeeping.”

Wing-back Jack McCaffrey will also be available despite cutting a finger in training while Gavin also reiterated that Alan Brogan is back in training and challenging for a place in the squad.

“Alan is playing with us again but, no more than any player, he needs to prove himself in training. He is a very experienced player and a very polished forward.

“He adds great leadership to the setup anyway but he does need to prove himself to the group that he is up to match pace.”

Long-term injury victims Cormac Costello (shoulder) and Tomas Brady (cruciate) are the only confirmed absentees from the squad.

Looking forward to this game. Two outstanding gaelic football counties playing one another. Hopefully it will be a great game with two talented teams just playing high quality, skilful football without any cynical or dirty fouls or anything like that.

Would love to know where this rumour came from!? Absolute rubbish. He’ll be there to lead the lads out Sunday week. Should be a great game.
