A left-field choice on the Good Wall and people left mystified by Shane Lowry's glittery beard

Andy Lee opted for a fellow Irish boxer while Maurice Fitzgerald lost out on tonight’s Second Captains Live.

TONIGHT’S INSTALLMENT OF Second Captains Live featured a star-studded line-up of guests as the lads were joined on the couch by WBO middleweight champion Andy Lee, Irish golfer Shane Lowry, Munster’s Peter O’Mahony and former Mayo football manager James Horan.

Lee was handed the opportunity to have his say on the famous Good Wall and surprised a few by including IBF super-bantamweight champion boxer Carl Frampton, with Kerry legend Maurice Fitzgerald making way.

The Limerick man also swapped ninth-placed Paul O’Connell with Ronan O’Gara — who had been sitting in third.

Earlier, Twitter had been rife with questions about Lowry’s glittery beard after there appeared to be an unusual sparkle coming off the well-groomed facial hair of Offaly native Lowry, who is just back from Augusta after participating in the Masters for the first time.

Our guess? He probably lashed a few drops of this stuff in before going on…

There was also a sketch involving Murph, ex-Meath footballer Trevor Giles, his trademark sleeveless jersey and piña coladas. Great stuff altogether.

Met Andy Lee in town earlier, he seemed a lovely guy and wilfully made conversation with me – Joe Punter who could hardly get two words out beside “you’re great and I’m proud of you and your achievements”!!

You think? Too much rte ‘banter’ & not enough serious chat for me, the boys were better on the radio.

I still like them, just think it has been dumbed down too much. RTE seem to think the youff can’t concentrate for more then 5 minutes without being entertained.

I agree Shane. It reminds me too much of the really low brow English football program with Helen Chamberlain on Saturday morning.
