IT’S BEEN QUITE the few days for Seanie Maguire.
Last Friday, the ex-Cork City striker was handed his senior international debut in Ireland’s 2-0 win over Moldova at the Aviva Stadium.
The 23-year-old’s first cap came less than a year on from his winning goal in the FAI Cup final at the same venue.
He may not have got on when Ireland defeated Wales in Cardiff three days later, but the experience of being on the bench for such a massive occasion will undoubtedly stand to him.
Maguire returned to club duties this afternoon as promotion-chasing Preston North End travelled to London to take on Fulham at Craven Cottage.
On 18 minutes, Maguire set up Jordan Hugill to open up the scoring for the visitors. He then bagged his third Championship goal since joining in July on 25 minutes.
Unfortunately, Maguire took a knock minutes later and was forced off just after the half-hour mark. The game finished 2-2.
Let’s hope Maguire’s injury isn’t serious.

Go on seanie boy,we all at Turner’s X had a great belief in u
@billy Dorney: irish media obsessed with seani maguire. There’s plenty other Irish in championship playing well and we never hear anything about them. For example, Matt Doherty has been superb as an attacking full back for Wolves this season, who are the best side in the league and will be promoted. Yet he can’t even get in the squad!! It’s ridiculous. Hi should be called up at least for the play offs squad.
@Pepper Brooks: know,but sranies special
@billy Dorney: seanies special
@Pepper Brooks: we’ve loads of defenders too, I think we’re hoping seanie will be the new Robbie …
Hes a goal scorer he proved that in our league this season , the championship is the most over rated league going along with the premier league. But all irish people seem to think its the bee all end all because sky sports have them brain washed. Maguire should be our no1 striker for the next euro qualifiers
@robbie: i didnt say it wasnt levels above? Its still the most over rated league. Its full of players who failed miserably in the scottish premiership and other leagues.
@ryan o sullivan: bang on Ryan
@robbie: definitely heads above a lot of strikers,and for the ROI only going to get better
Ah cmon now lads this is getting embarrassing. What’s the next article gonna be “Seanie Maguire touches the ball as Preston win 1-0″.
@Ewan Scott: ah now
Mcgoldrick and Mcgeady have 4 goals and 3 assists this season so far and not a mention, what is with this obsession people have for seannie mcguire?? Let him try and become atleast the third best Irish attacker in the championship before we put him on a pedestal.
@Martin Redington: he came from our own league
@Matthew: actually he came from the west ham academy
@Matthew: and that’s great, but he’s not shooting out lights.
@PScald: No, learned his football in Waterford. Played LOI before signing for West Ham. Then came home after 2 years. Talking thru your hole.
@Sean Hammond: No, learned his football in Kilkenny. Played schoolboy for Deen Celtic before moving on to Evergreen.
@Sean Hammond: developed by John caulfield,who believed him,and instilled confidence
@Martin Redington: meowww
@Joe Brennan: tut tut,was nothing special until city got hold of him
Nice goal by the Luton Born Man
@BL Defender Defender: meowww
