SEAN RUSSELL WASTED no time in making an impression upon his return to the SSE Airtricity League.
Having spent five months with United Soccer League club Louisville City, who he joined from Limerick in January, the 23-year-old midfielder signed for Drogheda United last week.
He made his debut for the Drogs in Saturday evening’s meeting with Sligo Rovers and gave his new club the lead with a stunning half-volley at the Showgrounds.
The League of Ireland has been treated to an abundance of superb strikes in 2017, but this one should be right up there when the goal of the season award is handed out.

In their battle against relegation to the First Division, Drogheda ultimately had to settle for a point after Rhys McCabe equalised for Sligo.
Pete Mahon’s side stay rooted to the foot of the table, while Sligo are a point clear of the relegation zone, which also includes St Patrick’s Athletic and Galway United.
How long until Mel comments??
@Johnny Ryan: lad I’m seriously flattered by how much you think about me. Living in your head rent free.
@Roberts Mel: ahhh there it is, only took 20 mins for the beast of the 42 to comment lovely stuff
@Roberts Mel: might mute you now. Sick of you saying I’ve 31 accounts
@Roberts Mel: poor Mel. Everyone hates Tyrone.
@Bruce van der Gutschmitzer: everyone got a good laugh at that comedy in Castlebar last night
@Roberts Mel: Why was it a comedy..a good exciting match to watch that went down to the wire.. Unlike some games that are over way way before that.
@Johnny Ryan: why! Do you have only 30?
@Hans Vos: waffling clown
Mayo??
@BMJF: or do Mayo come to qualifiers at next stage as a losing provincial semi finalist?
@BMJF: next round
@Roberts Mel: Everyone just wants to know when Mayo are playing again
