GALWAY FORWARD SEAN Armstrong has announced his retirement from inter-county football for the second time in his career.
The Salthill-Knocknacarra ace previously retired in 2014 after losing his appetite to play county football, but he rejoined Kevin Walshโs squad for the past two seasons.
The 32-year-old lifted the Connacht title this year and the Division 2 league crown in 2017. His final appearance in the maroon arrived in Galwayโs All-Ireland semi-final loss to Dublin last month.
He confirmed his decision to step away in an Instagram post this morning.
โTo all the managers, backroom staff, players and fans,โ he said. โIt has been a privilege to play for you and alongside you.
โTo my family and friends, thank you for your absolute support. It was an honour to wear the maroon and white.โ
Armstrong won three Connacht titles in total with the Tribesmen, while he helped deliver All-Ireland U21 success in 2005.

A great servant, good lad and underage partnership with Meehan will long be remembered.
@dRod2128: fact came into my mind straight away that was some u-21 team but every time galway play even now because heโs only young michael that is Iโm like if only he didnโt have the injuries he could beat teams on his own truly gifted and Armstrong prospered when he played ,, the fact the man who especially Kerryโs backs were terrified of when he played well taken the best all star half back corner backs u name it ,,, to the cleaners doesnโt have an all star itโs ludicrous and abysmal , just was reminded the last day..there are a lot others I know I was just in awe of his skills could score from anywhere defend field quick so intelligent and hard as nails ..
Thanks to Sean for some memorable games. He gave it his all.
Fair play army great servant and deadly on his day
