Callanan was in red-hot form at HQ. Donall Farmer/INPHO

The Sunday Game's man-of-the-match was on the losing side at Croke Park

Do you agree?

IT’S VERY RARE for a player on the losing side to be given the man-of-the-match award but Seamus Callanan’s performance was such that there was very little choice but to hand it to the Tipperary forward.

In undoubtedly the game of the championship summer, Callanan set Croke Park alight with a consummate display of sharp-shooting as he netted a memorable All-Ireland semi-final hat-trick.

But, incredibly, his heroics were in vain as Galway substitute Shane Moloney was the hero with a last-gasp point to send his side through to the decider against Kilkenny next month.

Callanan was in red-hot form as he fired 3-9 but it was to end in heartbreak for the Drom-Inch sharpshooter and his Tipp team-mates as their quest to lift the Liam McCarthy Cup ended for another year.

The Sunday Game panel were unanimous in their decision as Callanan pipped Galway’s Jason Flynn and Colm Callanan to the award.

But do you think their decision was justified? Should the award have been given to a player from the winning team?

Who was your man-of-the-match?

Poll Results:

Colm Callanan (420)

OK, I know I’m going to draw the wrath of the LOI supporters but I’m going to ask anyway. After 4 years with Liverpool he ends up at St. Pats. How good could he be?

@Chicken George: he is 19. Did you expect him to be in goal at top level at 19? Becker was 21 before he made his senior debut in Brazil
