'Last season is gone' - Schmeichel slams 'embarrassing' Leicester

The champions are in serious trouble.

LEICESTER GOALKEEPER Kasper Schmeichel admits the troubled Premier League champions will be relegated unless they improve their โ€œembarrassingโ€ form.

Claudio Ranieriโ€™s side crashed to their fourth consecutive league defeat as Manchester United romped to a 3-0 victory at the King Power Stadium on Sunday.

The Foxes are only one point above the relegation zone and have just one win in their last nine league games.

It is an incredible collapse just nine months after Leicester were crowned English champions and Schmeichel acknowledged his team had only themselves to blame.

โ€œFirst 40 minutes we played OK then after that unacceptable. It is not good enough and sums our season up at the moment,โ€ Schmeichel told Sky Sports.

โ€œIt is not a comfortable situation. It has been terrible, embarrassing.

โ€œLetโ€™s not talk about last season. Itโ€™s gone. We need to stand up and be counted. There are a lot of factors that go into it but this season has not been good right from the start.โ€

Leicester look to be lacking the focus and commitment that carried them to the title.

But, quizzed about reports that Ranieri has lost the backing of his players, Schmeichel refused to blame the boss and called for his squad to stick together.

โ€œI am not commentating on newspaper speculation. I know what is going on in the dressing room, we are a group of players low on confidence but not low on fight,โ€ he said.

โ€œIt is time for each one of us โ€“ from the top to the bottom of this club โ€“ to be counted. If we donโ€™t we will be relegated.โ€

Goes to show how crucial Kante was to them. The defence is the same as last season but when he was in front of them, he made up for their lack of pace and positional awareness. But youโ€™re bang on, since the start of the season, the likes Vardy and Mahrez have gone backwards and not stepping up when needed.

Correct Neil. Mahrez in particular has been very poor after being Player of the Year last season. Heโ€™s probably sulking because none of the big clubs came in for him last summer.
