Rory McIlroy plans his year on the back of a boarding pass (seriously)

Looking ahead to an important 12 months, the Northern Irish golfer revealed his unique approach to self-motivation.

EVERY YEAR, WORLD number one golfer Rory McIlroy plans his year on the back of a boarding pass, the star has revealed.

Looking ahead to an important 12 months, the Northern Irish golfer revealed his unique approach to self-motivation.

โ€œEvery year, I fly out and do a week or 10 days of preparation in Dubai before this tournament,โ€ McIlroy told reporters in Abu Dhabi, as he is set to take part in the HSBC Golf Championship from Thursday.

โ€œI write my goals down on the back of my boarding pass, put it in my wallet and I memorise them. I donโ€™t look at them again until the end of the year.

โ€œSo in my back pocket in my wallet is a boarding pass with my goals for this year. I donโ€™t really want to share them with anyone else. They are just my little goals; Iโ€™ll try and achieve those and Iโ€™ll take that boarding pass out at the end of the year and see how well Iโ€™ve done.โ€

The 25-year-old said he has set himself seven goals this time around and admits he has yet to enjoy a year in which all his targets have been met.

โ€œLast year I wanted to have six worldwide wins. I only had four,โ€ he said. โ€œI aim pretty high. Once I donโ€™t need the cards any more, they are just discarded.โ€
