THE ROBBIE KEANE soccer roadshow has a new accolade to stick on the dashboard.
The Irish striker has been named in the Major League Soccer team of the year after a 16-goal season that will culminate in the MLS Cup Final against Houston next month.
Keane, who also chipped in with nine assists [they love 'em Stateside] in 28 games, was selected in a front three that includes Chris Wondolowski of San Jose Earthquakes and New York’s favourite Red Bull, Thierry Henry.
Keane’s LA Galaxy teammate Landon Donovan was named in midfield for the fifth successive season.
There was no place, however, for the departing and demure David Beckham.
Sporting Kansas City midfielder Graham Zusi, who was capped by the United States for the first time this year, was a lock in midfield after contributing 15 assists and five goals to his team this year.
Zusi, Henry and Wondolowski – scorer of 27 goals this season – are vying for the league’s MVP award, which will be announced on Thursday.
MLS Best XI
Jimmy Nelsen [Sporting Kansas City]; Matt Besler [SKC], Victor Bernárdez [San Jose Earthquakes], Aurélien Collin [SKC]; Landon Donovan [LA Galaxy], Chris Pontius [DC United], Osvaldo Alonso [Seattle Sounders], Graham Zusi [SKC]; Robbie Keane [LAG], Thierry Henry [New York Red Bulls], Chris Wondolowski [SJE].
Good on ya Robbie feck the begrudgers.
If only they could get this team to play together, this is your chance Robbie! I was there in Paris that night, I’ll never forgive him either.
Maybe when the Georgians forgive Keane for his dive that won him a penalty you’ll come around to forgiving Henry for his handball. Until then I’ll keep you in my thoughts. It must be a very testing time for you. But whatever happens, you hang in there, pal. Keep that head up and battle on.
Thanks Noel, you’re very kind doing that for me it makes all the difference. Heard of humour before have you?
lol Steve, I could ask you the same question.
Go on then Noe
Always wondered what Chris Pontius did after jackass
Doesn’t say much for MLS …….
Really,is it April fools day already :-)
There must be a severe dearth of decent strikers if he can get on the team, though its not exactly a top class league.
Ah god love them the poor craters. Isn’t that nice of them.
It’s like league one football. The Irish captain should be playing premiership football. Going there he should have retired from international football.
I hate how people talk bad about the MLS. The soccer league in Ireland is way below the level MLS play at so I’d think twice before commenting if I were yous.
