THE MLS HAS named Robbie Keane as its Most Valuable Player (MVP) for 2014.
Ireland captain Keane was last night included in the Team of the Year and has now seen off competition from Seattle Sounders striker Obafemi Martins and New England Revolution’s Lee Nguyen to claim the league’s most prestigious individual prize for the first time.
Having finished second behind former team-mate Mike Magee last year, LA Galaxy skipper produced his best form during his fourth season in the US — with 19 goals and 14 assists from 29 appearances.
Last weekend, Galaxy overcame Seattle Sounders in the Western Conference final and 34-year-old Keane is certain to start when Bruce Arena’s men take on Revolution in Sunday’s MLS Cup.

Good man Mr. Keane !
Fair play -always put the green shirt first
Boyhood dream no doubt!!!
I guess this proves how bad the mls is when a over the hill premier league reject get mvp
Clown
Fair play to Robbie at this stage of his career. I could never understand the critics he had from this country
Congrats Keane, you’ve definitely proved how good you are.All the best !
Fair play to Robbie he’s a legend and deserves it ! Typical Irish people hatin on their own . Mugs
Not mugs. Just pointing out a few truths. But nobdy wants to admit them. Which is why the team is slow in moving on. Too many people stuck in the past
Slow in moving on?? People have this idea that ireland should be beating all around them. It’s nonsense. We are a small country where soccer vies with hurling, football and rugby to attract talented youngsters into the fold(and that doesn’t even take into account other sports like cricket, equestrian, hockey etc).
The “success” we enjoyed in the 90′s and early 00′s was out of step with the level we are capable of. We are about as good as we should be and every so often we go on a good run. That’s all we will ever have when it comes to soccer unfortunately.
If ya can’t be proud of your fellow country man then you have a serious issue . Henry was there he didn’t win it?
That’s it exactly Denis! We’ve a population that’s half the size of London’s. Apparently not being elite at absolutely everything isn’t acceptable to some people.
These begrudgers have achieved so much themselves I’m sure …
Stop begrudging him lads. Well done Robbie Keane, great player.
in the MLS (Must Learn Soccer) League
And also international football……
Hahaha.

Fair play to him. Other so called bigger and better players went to USA and didn’t adapt as well as robbie did. If he was still English the English media would be raving about him. Irish people are just a bunch of begrudging feckers he never got any good press in this country.
Good on him
His Missus is the real MVP. Tasty
Wonder will US press recognise him now or is he still ‘unknown fan’ !
It was his boyhood dream….
Fair play Robbie
137 goals in premiership in 267 games 65 in 138 for his country 24 for wolves in first div as a kid in 73 3 for inter in 14 ,12 for Celtic in 16 ,53 for la in 84 and people are saying he never done it at highest level oh right ya hate to have a fella that knows where the bk of the onion bag is
Good man Robbie, smashing player and well deserved!
Fair play Robbie keane….a proud Irishman still doing it at 34….surely still a team in the premier league needing a proven goalscorer
Proud of you Robbie .. Slainte
Why is everything about drink with you people?
What are you talking about?
Quite right, we love feck and arse too though
He is just proving he doesn’t know what the word Sláinte means….he thinks it is a drinking term
Absolute legend
Nobodies slagging a rich successful international football star?????????Jealousy i suppose.
Paul McShane could and would win MLS MVP if he played in the states. …..
He ain’t gonna win it playing anywhere else.
Yeah that level is fairly poor although I saw Robbie play earlier this year in Portland against the Timbers and he was the best player by a mile. Saw him score a good poachers goal too.
No of course he can’t win the mls mvp playing anywhere else. . . .
You’d have a hard time winning MLS MVP back in England.
I am absolutely delighted that this lovely man has won the award.
The man’s a legend
Some people are mad. They come here slagging Robbie Keane and telling us MLS is a poor standard of football. Yet the same people are telling us to vote for Stephanie Roche for FIFA goal of the year.
The best of a bad bunch, but still significantly more impressive than my u-14 medals.
What u14 medals do you have?
Haters gonna Hate
Robbie will always have his haters from jealous narrow minded morons but his record speaks for itself and when he hangs up his boots we are really going to struggle to ever replace him for Ireland and then some people will realise how important he has been for us over the last 16/17 years. Well done Robbie, you were always there for us when we needed you, well deserved award.
Woop de doo, he’s found his level, at last
Awesome record from a great footballer 110% committed to Republic even though considering the amount of abuse he has taken . Compare his record to Gary Leiniker who is respected by fans and media in England. We were and are lucky to have him
Some dopes in ireland. Saying its crap in the states and keane is over the hill. Who bloody cares the man deserves to be congratulated not to be ridiculed by his own. Thank god I don’t live at home anymore.
Go Robbie!!!?
Ha ha don’t know where the question mark came from! Go Robbie!!! 100%fan
Fair Play robbie thats great. Still gets the raspberry award for the republic of ireland though
Yeah, the raspberry award for being the country’s highest goal scorer, one if the highest ever, if not the highest, goal scorer at international level in Europe; always showing up and showing commitment to his country? What in your opinion would he need to do to earn your approval?
Rest of the players must be shite if Keane is the best……good goalscorer but crap all rounder….
Good thing he’s paid to score goals then!
It was a childhood dream of his to win the MLS mvp award …
On a serious note , well done Robbie great to see him get some well deserved recognition for all his hard work .
The club he supported As a boy.Now where have I heard that before
Chuck Norris was a close second and Stephen Hawking 3rd.
Top man.
Only brien o’driscoll rivels robbie as our greatest sportsman! A dedicated archiver , hats off!
The standard of MLS is on a par with League 1.
Good man Robbie doing us proud , the team names are gas the sounders , the revolutions , was waiting to read Galaxy next playing the washington thunderbolts or the dallas dispatchers
