Liverpool legends Fowler, McManaman and Jones handed coaching roles

The trio have agreed to assist with training youth teams at the club’s academy.

THREE FORMER LIVERPOOL players have returned to the club to take up coaching roles at Kirkby Academy.

Robbie Fowler, Steve McManaman and Rob Jones – who all became iconic players for the Reds during the 1990s – will help train and mentor youth teams after agreeing to come on board.

“The trio, who between them boast 973 Liverpool appearances, will assist coaches Alex Inglethorpe and Neil Critchley in providing specialist sessions in their respective areas of expertise,” reads Liverpool’s website.

First team manager Brendan Rodgers, whose side sit second in the Premier League after an encouraging start to the season, was delighted with the news and stressed the importance of having ex-players around the club.

“It’s great to have Robbie, Steve and Rob on board,” Rodgers told the Liverpool Echo.

“I said at the end of last season that I wanted to get more former players involved and over the off-season I spoke to a number of them about a possible role here.

For me it’s so important to have players like that around. These are players who the young guys look up to.”

That’s shocking to be honest. He shouldn’t have went to Thailand if he was going meeting up with the international team.. I didn’t even know he was Jamaican

I Believe it was a tour for the owners who are from there. But I agree with you general.

If he’s too tired to play now how will he cope with the extra games next season. Leicster may want to sign a couple new center backs. Huth and Morgan are both in their 30s and who’s the current back up?
