Richie Towell makes it two goals in two games as he bags winner for Brighton U23s

The Dubliner was on target against Wolves tonight.

RICHIE TOWELL HAS given Brighton and Hove Albion manager Chris Hughton a timely reminder of his ability by playing a starring role in a 2-1 victory for the Seagulls’ U23s against Wolves.

Towell has had a difficult time of it since leaving Dundalk for the English Championship last year as he has struggled for form and fitness.

The Dubliner has been linked with a loan move away from the club once the transfer window re-opens in January as his chances of breaking into Hughton’s senior side in the immediate future, who are second in the league table, are believed to be slim.

Towell has struggled with a knee injury this season but now seems to be putting his fitness issues behind him and has scored in successive games for the U23 side.

Brighton fell behind to Wolves after just 14 minutes tonight but equalised just before the hour mark through Ben Hall.

Towell then clinched victory for the Seagulls on 77 minutes with an excellent finish from inside the box.

Towell’s goals have now won two successive games for the U23s after he also recently scored the winner in an EFL Trophy clash against Leyton Orient.

Was about to feel delighted for him… Then I read the eat of the headline. Setting the world alight in the championship reserves. All joking aside at least he’s getting some kind of fitness back. If they have an injury crisis he might get his chance

Genuinely some of the worst defending I’ve ever seen. May as well have been a penalty for all the time he had.

This question pops up a lot….most people who follow football know a club is allowed field 3 outfield players over the age of 23…in an u23 team and an overage goalkeeper for good measure

The u23s have replaced the reserve teams so a certain number of overage players are allowed. I think it’s either 2 or 3 overage players per game. Thought you would have know that from your time at Chelsea Eva

Seemed like a genuine question from a casual sports fan to me. You don’t have to be an expert in a sport to take an interest in it
