Former Ireland international Ray Brady, brother of Liam, passes away

He won six caps between 1963 and 1964.

FORMER IRELAND INTERNATIONAL Ray Brady has passed away at the age of 79.

The Dubliner, the elder brother of fellow international and RTร‰ pundit Liam, won six caps for Ireland between 1963 and 1964.

Ray Brady played club football in England with Millwall and Queens Park Rangers while he also lined out for St Patrickโ€™s Athletic and Transport FC in the League of Ireland.

Brady played in Irelandโ€™s famous 3-2 victory against Austria in a European Nations Cup game at Dalymount Park in October 1963, the national teamโ€™s most recent success against that opposition prior to Saturdayโ€™s win in Vienna.

In a column for the Irish Examiner on Monday, Liam Brady wrote how the result of Martin Oโ€™Neillโ€™s side would have โ€œcheered his brother up no endโ€ during his ill health.

Two other Brady brothers, Frank, who passed away in 2009, and Pat also played professional football.

โ€œI am saddened to learn of Ray Bradyโ€™s sad passing today,โ€ FAI chief executive John Delaney said in a statement.

โ€œHe was from a great footballing family and our thoughts are with his brothers Liam and Pat and all of Rayโ€™s family at this sad time.

โ€œRay made his Ireland debut against Austria in Vienna 53 years ago so itโ€™s poignant that he passed away just a matter of days after the national team recorded a win in the same city.

โ€œRay served his clubs and country with distinction as a player. We will pay tribute to him at next yearโ€™s World Cup qualifier against Wales.โ€

@t: Doran is a serious prospect! Possibly the best forward in the county. Keep watch for him. A hot prospect
