THERE HAS BEEN increased speculation about the vacant Ireland managerโs job, with a number of new names today linked with the post.
FAI chief executive John Delaney has previously spoken about how Giovanni Trapattoni raised the profile of the job, claiming there was more interest than ever in the position, and The Irish Independent today has suggested a number of names that are in with a shout of taking the vacant post.
Carlos Queiroz, Rene Meulensteen and Guus Hiddink are among the people that have described as possible contenders. The former two are understood to have expressed an interest in undertaking the role, whereas Hiddink is still considered a long shot.
With that in mind, who would you prefer to see installed?
Hiddink only one proven out of the these guys at international level with limited players
Hiddink would be coup of the century in fairness! His record is ridiculous and he has the ability to create sides that vastly exceed the sum of their individual parts (S.Korea 2002, Australia 2006). Oh, and his teams usually play decent ball too. Heโd be perfect but a little out of our price range Iโd imagine.
And on one hand, you would have to question his motivation and drive but on the other, he definitely wouldnโt blackmail the FAI for a new contract before a tournament like Trapattoni and he wouldnโt stick around for a huge payoff when the writing is on the wall like Trapattoni and he has actually adapted to modern football, unlike Trapattoni.
Also speaks English, unlike Trapattoni.
Meulensteen for me did superb work at united for many yearsโฆ
Liverpool fan here
Where?
Never heard of him
Hiddink? Jesus heโs a proven manager!
Meulensteen! No brainer!
I agree Billy . . Tore up trees at united, has a nack for turning sows ears into silk purses!
Heโll work like a Meul too.
Irish football has a heartburn and needs a Rene
Without doubt it would be Rene! Granted he lacks the international experience etc, but he was highly rated at utd, had a great appetite to succeed at all levels, would make sure the youth structure would be highly organised, run well and reap results, plus heโll be raring to go asap! Big challenge if he gets it but Iโd be over the moon if we get him!
Would Queiroz not be unavailable til after World cup 2014 since heโs qualified for it with Iran?
Wonโt Be Rene , apparently heโs in talks with Fulham to join the coaching staff, but if you ask me the owners are just getting there man in place for when Jol is gone .
