Patrickswell aren't happy with a controversial ending to the Limerick hurling final

There was some confusion surrounding the amount of injury-time played at the end of the Shannonside decider.

THERE WAS A โ€œsurrealโ€ ending to yesterdayโ€™s county senior hurling final in Limerick โ€“ and runners-up Patrickswell arenโ€™t happy.

The game ended in some controversy as the clock in the stadium did not show that the full 60 minutes had been played.

While handing over the trophy to Na Piarsaigh, county board chairman Oliver Mann, a Limerick man, admitted that the clock was wrong but insisted that it was not an issue.

In the press box, reporters stated that 31 minutes of the second half had been played โ€“ the regulation half an hour plus a minute of stoppage time.

But this wasnโ€™t known on the pitch apparently and Patrickswell corner back Kelvin Lynch, brother of teen sensation Cian, voiced his frustration on Twitter:

This screen grab from Limerick reporter Jerome Oโ€™Connell shows that almost a minute of stoppage time had been played on the TG4 watch, however:

Na Piarsaigh claimed the spoils to deny Patrickswell a first county senior hurling crown since 2003. The result is unlikely to be appealed.

This is what winning a first county final in 26 years is all about

Can you imagine if France won though? That would just be bad for rugby in general, and Lievremont might have kept his job longer!

I would more say that he bottled it rather than set out to ensure a home win. Having said that he was chosen to ref the final on the basis that he would bottle it.

Theyโ€™ll need an even bigger performance from Andre Joubert if theyโ€™re to win it again.

Theyโ€™re clearly the best team on paper so it all just depends on whether they show up. Iโ€™ll be putting a sizeable bet on a Southern Hemisphere winner at 7/11. Bet of the century as far as Iโ€™m concerned.

Carter will be lucky to get his place in the team these days. Barrett and Slade will gunning for a starting berth. Their strength in depth is remarkable. They could their top 5 or 6 players and still win it.

No Slade would never be starting unless an emergency situation a la 2011 were to happen again. Heโ€™s good but nothing more than a bench player. Iโ€™d have Cruden as the starting 10 if he wasnโ€™t injured, however Iโ€™m confident DC will deliver as long as he doesnโ€™t get injured. TBH the only headache and legitimate question from the above is who our starting right winger is. If you were to go by form youโ€™d be urged to drop Savea for Naholo and have Skudder on the right, but that wonโ€™t happen.

Watched the documentary on the NZ triumph in 2011 on a plane a few years ago. Conrad Smith trying to choke back laughter when commenting on how Ireland beat Australia stuck with me. His take was; โ€œyou know, scoff scoff, one of these smaller northern sides, might, *tries to hold back laughter, in their day and that, scoff scoff, even, scoff, beat you!โ€
