Sligo to replace Pat Flanagan over 'uncertainty' surrounding his future

The county board released a brief statement confirming his departure this morning.

PAT FLANAGAN IS no longer manager of the Sligo senior footballers after โ€œuncertaintyโ€ over his future has forced the county board to look for a replacement.

The former Offaly player has been heavily linked with the vacant managerโ€™s position in his native county despite being in charge of Sligo for less than a year.

The Yeats County reached the final round of the qualifiers this season where they lost to Cork after once again failing to gain promotion from Division III of the Allianz National football league.

In a statement this morning the Executive of the Sligo GAA County Committee said:

โ€œ[We have] authorised a sub-committee to seek out a suitable person to manage the senior County football panel.โ€This decision was arrived at due to the continued uncertainty regarding Pat Flanaganโ€™s availability to remain in the role.โ€An Coiste Bainistรญ acknowledge Patโ€™s undoubted talent as a manager and his recent positive contribution to Sligo football.

โ€œWe wish him the very best for the future.โ€

    Well done to Stephen for sharing his story, the mind is a powerful thing and the effects our thoughts can have on our body. Iโ€™m sure anorexia is more prevalent than we think with males and does not only affect females. Glad he has come out the other side and his life is going well now.

    Immense inner strength to come through it all and hugely considerate and brave to share his journey in the hope of helping others.

    5 and a half stone is 35kg. Letโ€™s say your an 18 year old and ur 83kg and u lose that much then youโ€™re 48kg. Thats really unhealthy and if u donโ€™t eat enough food then youll have no energy for exercise. Sounds awful

    @Eoin Murphy:
    Definitely a tough station.

    His starting weight was 114kg & he lost 35kg to bring him down to 79kg which is very light for a man of his frame.

    Some mental battle to win.
