A WORLD RECORD breaking attempt – to make as many ham sandwiches as possible in an hour – has been organised by Offaly GAA officials to take place before their Leinster hurling championship clash against Kilkenny on June 9th.
Former Offaly legends Michael Duignan, Brian Whelehan and Joe Dooley along with the Kilkenny duo of DJ Carey and Eddie Brennan will be on hand to help out with the attempt as well as partaking in a Q and A session ahead of the match in Tullamore.
The current world record for the most number of sandwiches in one hour, stands at 1,686 sandwiches – which was achieved by an engineering fraternity in the USA that produced peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.
The event will take place in Tullamore GAA club from midday on Sunday June 9th with Offaly sponsors Carroll Cuisine providing the ingredients for the sandwich making attempt.
It is being organised as a charity event to raise money for Irish Autism Action with volunteers from the charity set to distribute the record-breaking sandwiches to supporters at O’Connor Park.
