THE FA CUP clash between Tottenham and Bolton Wanderers at White Hart Lane was abandoned on Saturday, after the Bolton midfielder Fabrice Muamba collapsed in the middle of the pitch.
Muamba had nobody around him when he fell and immediately received CPR in an effort to resuscitate him on the pitch.
The 23-year-old was taken to the Heart Attack Centre at the London Chest Hospital. Following initial reports that described Muamba as “stable”, a statement issued by Bolton this evening said that he remains ”in a critically ill condition in intensive care.”
“No further information will be issued at this stage. The club has requested the media to respect his family’s privacy at this time”
After referee Howard Webb called players from both teams off the pitch, fans remained to hear news of the former Arsenal and Birmingham player, chanting his name in support before the news came that the match would not go ahead.
The thoughts of TheScore.ie are with Muamba and his family at this time.
all the best Alan….Gave a powerful display in Killarney on the first day
With the amounts of games being played in football and hurling each year. It’s a testament to the coaches and fitness of the player’s themselves not only at county level but at club level that these injuries are kept to a minimum. Catching and landing, at the same time turning while under pressure must put a lot of pressure on the knees. The fact player’s come back from a break easier than a cruciate says it all. Wish him a speedy recovery.
End of his career possibly?
Doesn’t matter because corks season could be over today anyway
Well the man has club, family and work commitments so it does matter
