MICHAEL CARRICK SAYS heโs looking forward to working under Jose Mourinho after signing a one-year contract extension at Man United.
The 34-year-old was out of contract at Old Trafford this summer but has now put pen to paper on a new deal which will see him play into his eleventh season at the club.
There had been suggestions that Man United were prepared to let the midfielder go but Mourinho says Carrickโs experience and knowledge will be โinvaluableโ to him during his first season in charge.
โMichael is a very intelligent midfielder and a great reader of the game,โ Mourinho said.
โI am pleased that he will be extending his contract. His form this year shows his ability and his enjoyment of the game are as strong as ever.
โMichael has a wealth of experience from his many years at the club and that knowledge will be invaluable to me. I am really looking forward to working with him.โ
Carrick joined United from Tottenham back in 2006 and has helped the Red Devils win five Premier League titles, an FA Cup, one League Cup, a Fifa Club World Cup, and the Champions League.
โThis great club has been a part of my life for the past 10 years, so I am delighted that this incredible journey is continuing,โ he said.
โItโs great to have the opportunity to work under Josรฉ Mourinho, who has achieved so much during his managerial career.
โI would like to thank the fans for their unwavering support. Winning the FA Cup was a special moment and, hopefully, we can go on to win more trophies in the future.โ

All the raving about the signings of Schweinsteiger and Schneiderlin last summer and Carrick was still their best central midfielder by a mile
Agree but once again itโs shows how poor the midfield still is. Not slating Carrick, he has been a massive player, but he didnโt always play last season. Hope this problem is finally sorted but Iโm sure this summer it will be.
Good player but he just needs that extra look that Xavi or inesta donโt that was the difference at the very top level. But still happy he is around for one more year at least!
