The England international has spent 11 years at Old Trafford having arrived for an initial fee of £14 million from Tottenham at the beginning of the 2006/07 season.
His recent absence was attributed to a calf injury by many, but there had been reports that the United captain was ruled out of action with a ‘mystery illness.’
