LAST WEEK IT was ‘The Mountain’ from Game of Thrones who was training with Conor McGregor at Straight Blast Gym in Dublin.
This week it’s Ido Portal — the renowned movement expert who many believe to have been a major influence on the UFC interim featherweight champion.
In a recent interview with London Real, Portal spoke of his admiration for McGregor and expressed his desire to ‘do some work’ with the 27-year-old MMA star.
Portal got that opportunity yesterday when he was in Dublin, spending some time with McGregor and fellow UFC star Gunnar Nelson as they prepare for their respective bouts against Jose Aldo and Demian Maia in Las Vegas on 12 December.
Nelson posted on Instagram: “Enjoyed training with and learning from Ido Portal a true master of movement!”
If you’re unfamiliar with Ido Portal, a quick glance at his YouTube channel and website will reveal the influence that his ‘method’ has had on McGregor’s impressive athleticism and manner of movement.
“Teaching this new generation of fighters and equipping them with a paradigm shift — new hybrid tools, unseen before, new philosophy about their practice, new skill set and abilities,” said Portal on Facebook.
“There is a new breed of fighters coming up and with them — a revolution in the way the world views movement.”
Portal, who has an extensive background in the Brazilian martial art of capoeira, is becoming very popular with athletes across a wide variety of sports — MMA in particular.
Former Cork hurler Paul Tierney — who’s now a successful ultra-runner — told The42 recently that he has also learned from Portal, who imparts his method at regular seminars around the globe.
Manning wouldn’t have set any of those records if Denver were playing in the NFC West. The AFC was terrible this season and that was proven last night.
Go Hawks.
Hard to disagree with that. 49ers and Saints better than than anything in the AFC. From time to time one side of the draw is just stronger than the other.
Manning still set the most completions in a superbowl last night , turned into a waste of a day off but at least I’m able to enjoy a walk either the dog
Next season the NFC West play the AFC West so we’ll see a repeat of the Superbowl plus Manning vs the Niners…be interesting to see how he does in those games. … both Cardinals & Rams will be tough games for Broncos too… think his legacy is tarnished though…. look at Marino’s numbers, phenomenal QB but he’s not even in the discussion vs Montana. .. it’s all about the rings..
It shouldn’t just all be about the rings as that’s way too simplistic. The Patriots were a much better team overall in the Super Bowl winning years than the Colts ever were.
If you put it in to another context using a different sport, for example Michael Carrick has a rake of Premier League medals and Steven Gerrard has none, does that make Carrick a better player than Gerrard?
Or Mike Tindall won a World Cup with England and Brian O’Driscoll never won one with Ireland, does that make Tindall better than O’Driscoll?
You’re right but realistically that’s how it’s measured…. hence my example of Marino vs Montana. .. if you just went on the numbers, then Marino is streets ahead… but it’s Montana who’s considered the best of all time due to the SB wins…. I think in 10/15 yrs people will look to Brady rather than Manning… legacy wise, would be incredible feat for Manning to win SB with 2 different teams… he still has a shot but this was a bad loss…
NFC West vs AFC West? Yes it will be..An all California Super Bowl.49ers vs Chargers.
I think something that gets glossed over when comparing Brady and Manning is Brady has had arguably the greatest coach of all time with him for his whole career, that has to help a serious amount in getting over the line
Far as I can see the salary cap is going to blow that Seahawks team apart. Sherman and Wilson alone will push them towards it. But deserved winners. Next season will be fascinating. If 49ers can get home field for playoffs they’re my pick! #bold
I love it
