Here we go.

ST MARY’S CHURCH in Westport is located on the banks of the Carrowbeg River in the centre of town.

Like the rest of Mayo, they’re all looking forward to the All-Ireland Football Championship Final against Dublin in Croker on Sunday.

And the church’s new decorations let everyone know whose side they’re on

YES.

Yesterday afternoon, the church’s Facebook page uploaded the Mayo-themed decorations as their new profile picture – and it’s since gone viral, with nearly 2000 likes already.

They tell a tale of how Mayo’s crest and the church are inextricably linked:

The ecclesiastical significance of the Mayo Crest is very deep, as are the links to our parish which lie within. Críost Linn, adapted from The first line of St. Patrick’s Breastplate speaks for itself. The four crosses, the double barred cross of the Archdiocese of Tuam, and underneath it, three crosses of the dioceses of Kilalla, Achonry and Galway make up the four dioceses of County Mayo.

And they’re even having some pre-match craic in the comments section. When one Dublin fan came at them with:

Good one, but Your gonna need all the prayers you can muster! Up da Dubs lol

Their response was simple:

Mayo have pride in their county what’s wrong with that. They’re passionate bout their team and never lose faith.

It’s a bit tacky now in fairness. You’d expect it from a county who maybe are contesting their first final in donkeys years, but Mayo have been in plenty of final. I’d be keeping it low key, especially as there’s been so many disappointments in the past.
