KERRY LEGEND MAURICE Fitzgerald will join Eamonn Fitzmauriceโs football management team for next season as a selector.
The two-time All-Ireland winner replaces Diarmuid Murphy on the coaching ticket after the former goalkeeper stepped down earlier this year after working in the role for six seasons.
Fitzgerald is due to be ratified in the new role at a Kerry County Committee meeting tomorrow and will join Padraig Corcoran (strength and conditioning coach) and fellow All-Ireland-winning forwards Mikey Sheehy (selector) and Liam Hassett (selector) on the backroom team.
โI am delighted to welcome Maurice into the Kerry senior football setup,โ manager Fitzmaurice said.
โHis football knowledge, work ethic and personality will be a huge asset to us.โ
Fitzgerald, 47, widely regarded as one of the best footballers in recent memory, enjoyed a lengthy career with the Kingdom which spanned from 1988 to 2001, picking up All-Ireland medals in 1997 and 2000.
Fitzgerald managed his club, St Maryโs Caherciveen, to a Kerry intermediate championship last year before going on to clinch the All-Ireland title in February against Mayoโs Hollymount-Carramore.

Bad news as Tipp and Munster fan. Given the amount of coverage this lad has gotten since first joining the Tipp setup, either he is exceptional S&C coach or has a serious PR team behind him.
@Johnny 5: S&C isnโt a games changer. Good S&C coaches are plentiful out there. All teams will be pretty equal on that front. So yes, PR/hype at itโs best here.
He is a serious S&C Coach when you Bye in to his Plan. Had him at club level so seen Up Close & he is serious. Would have being a Huge Addition To Munster!
To be fair, deciding between living/working in Galway or in Limerick is a pretty easy decision to make :D
Fair play โ volunteerism is the of the GAA. Loyal to his county despite the loot on offer from a professional outfit.
@Johnny A: He gets paid by Galway
@Johnny A: good one!!
He had Galway in top shape last year and very little injuries. It definitely was a big part of winning the all Ireland in 2017
