'If you're not enjoying something, why do it?' - Mark McHugh on his Donegal exit

The All-Star insists there was no falling out.

MARK MCHUGH HAS spoken for the first time about his exit from the Donegal panel just weeks before the start of their Ulster Championship campaign.

McHugh joined three other members of Jim McGuinnessโ€™ panel - Thomas McKinley, Gary McFadden and Anton McFadden โ€“ in removing their names from consideration for this yearโ€™s campaign with many speculating there had been a falling out between the one-time All-Star and the Donegal manager.

However, on Newstalkโ€™s Off The Ball show this evening, McHugh denied falling out with anyone insisting instead he fell out of love with the game.

โ€œIt wasnโ€™t a decision I made overnight. If I felt myself that I wasnโ€™t a benefit to the Donegal team or I wasnโ€™t enjoying life or my football, there was just no point me being there.

โ€œI still love Donegal. Iโ€™ll go up and support them against Derry next week.

โ€œItโ€™s not that Iโ€™ve fallen out with anybody. I just made a decision on my own behalf, talked to people that I trust and I made the decision

โ€œItโ€™s nothing about hunger, just taking a wee break,โ€ said McHugh, who will look at the situation again next season.

The 23-year old likened his stance to someone unhappy in their job.

โ€œ I wasnโ€™t enjoying what I was doing, travelling and stuff like that and different areas. If youโ€™re not enjoying your work, you still do it because you get paid at the end of the week for it.

โ€œUnfortunately the GAA isnโ€™t like that at the moment. If youโ€™re not enjoying something, why do it?โ€

Was there myself, they showed great character yesterday and are playing as a unit. Write Spurs off at your peril!

Great start for Spurs 6 pts and top of the table โ€“ QPR and the Hammers not the toughest start, but we lost 3 times to the latter last season. Cautiously optimistic, too early to be anything else โ€ฆ

Harry needs to get over it! He is where he is through his own fault and no one elseโ€™s.

Well in fairness if his dog hadnโ€™t opened that bank account everything would have been ok.
