FORMER PREMIER LEAGUE striker Marcus Bent is facing a jail sentence after he admitted to threatening police with a meat cleaver and a kitchen knife last September.
The 37-year old, who had spells with 14 different clubs including Blackburn Rovers, Leicester City and Everton, was Tasered by police during the incident.
Bent pleaded guilty to affray at Guildford Crown Court in Surrey today after previously pleading not guilty to the charge.
Judge Stephen Climie said: “I adjourn your case for sentence on 12 February.
“Between now and then, I expect the Probation Service to prepare a report on you which you are required to attend for interview to discuss in greater detail the background to what on paper is a disturbing set of events, which I’m sure you appreciate.
“On the face of it a custodial sentence is justified. Whether that is the right sentence in the context of this case is not a matter I will prejudge.”
Bent had previously entered a guilty plea to possessing a class A drug – cocaine. Police were originally called to Bent’s Surrey home last September after he had reported a break-in at the property.
You wouldn’t see Gooch Cooper or Tommy Welsh at this caper. More likely to see him them with a snack box and a tin of Fanta rather than that cocaine stuff.
Amazing to think some of us are from the same country that’s produced Yeats, Joyce, Beckett, Wilde etc……..
Marcus guilty, he Bent the rules and it wasn’t a cleaver choice.
I remember my dad when he started playing “That’s a terrible name… Marcus”
They can be very volatile, can’t they?
