Marco Reus commits to Bundesliga strugglers Dortmund

So there is loyalty in football afterall.

THERE ARE A lot of very disappointed football fans scattered around Europe this afternoon after Marco Reus put pen to paper on a new contract with Borussia Dortmund.

The German forward had attracted attention from the likes of Real Madrid and Manchester Untied but will now remain with Dormund – who remain just a point off the bottom of the Bundesliga – until 2019.

Reus has 70 goals in 169 games and Managing Director Hans-Joachim Watzke compared the Germany international to Steven Gerrard.

“Marco can shape an era in Dortmund, as has done before by Uwe Seeler in Hamburg or Steven Gerrard in Liverpool. That Marco has decided midst of a sporting crisis for BVB shows a high degree of loyalty of which we are very proud.”

Gareth Bale ‘can cope’ with Real Madrid boo boys

Captaining Stoke against the champions will be ‘a proud moment’ for Glenn Whelan

I don’t think you could ever doubt Gerard’s commitment to Liverpool, could’ve easily have left on numerous occasions but stayed despite Liverpool struggling most seasons

Does this mean the €25 million release clause is gone and he could possibly go for a lot more now?

Exactly Dave, similar to Suarez’ new contract last January. And a clause that allows him to leave if they get relegated possibly.

Everyone comes out looking good from this deal. It’s just delaying the inevitable. It gets rid of that 25 mil clause and reus is just ensuring that Dortmund gets fair money for him when they sell him in the summer. This deal is just a nod and a wink from Dortmund and they will let him go in the summer regardless of whether they stay up or not.

Some people are just obsessed with Gerrard and want to offer a dig even on articles that have nothing to do with him. Sad
