Marcelo Bielsa gives Leeds duo a break in bid to improve their Euro 2020 chances

Robin Koch and Mateusz Klich will not feature again for the club this season.

ROBIN KOCH and Mateusz Klich will not feature again for Leeds this season after head coach Marcelo Bielsa revealed the pair have been granted early leave to boost their hopes of being involved in the European Championship.

A minor hip complaint meant Koch was absent for Saturdayโ€™s 4-0 victory over Burnley and Bielsa is wary of taking an unnecessary risk with the defender and possibly jeopardising his potential participation with Germany this summer.

Koch โ€“ whose first season at Leeds has been disrupted by knee surgery, sidelining him for several months โ€“ is therefore not under consideration for Tuesdayโ€™s trip to Southampton or the visit of West Brom this weekend.

Klich, who opened the scoring at Turf Moor, has no injury concerns but Bielsa insisted he is taking what he feels is the best course of action for the Polish midfielder.

โ€œKoch has been given early leave with the potential for him to be called up or not called up to the German national team,โ€ Bielsa said ahead of the visit to take on Saints.

โ€œI donโ€™t know whether heโ€™s going to be called up to the German national team or not. Itโ€™s just that he has a small niggle and we didnโ€™t want to run the risk of a small niggle being aggravated into something bigger.

โ€œThe injury that he has is not important and we didnโ€™t want to take the risk of him playing and making it worse so we anticipated his holidays in the same way we did so for Klich.

โ€œ(Klich) is not injured. The evaluations that I make over the campaign are for the needs of each player and in the case of Klich, the decision I made was the most favourable one for him.โ€

Bielsa, who revealed Pablo Hernandez could return at St Maryโ€™s, saw his side collect their fifth win in their last eight matches, banishing any notion that their approach could result in burnout towards the end of the season.

They are poised for a top-half finish in their first season back in the Premier League ahead of their penultimate game at Southampton, whose results took a downward turn at the start of 2021 after a strong start to the campaign.

โ€œ(Southampton) is a team who is in a different position in the table with regards to the performances they have had,โ€ Bielsa said.

โ€œThey have a group of players who are very capable and they didnโ€™t finish higher up in the table because they had a phase of nine or 10 games that was negative.

โ€œBut the level of the team is superior to the position they find themselves in the table.โ€

Tuesdayโ€™s trip to the south coast will be the first time Leeds, as well as Southampton, have played in front of fans in the top-flight for several months and the occasion is not lost on Bielsa.

โ€œEngland should feel privileged that they are able to partially resolve this situation with Covid and of course itโ€™s great to have the fans back,โ€ he added. โ€œEven if itโ€™s partially, itโ€™s a situation that very few countries are able to have.โ€

Iโ€™d love to hear the refโ€™s conversation with Giggs, someone whos been playing football for the vast majority of his near 40 year existence.

โ€œNo Ryan! You have to touch the ball from a corner! You cant dribble it!โ€

    โ€œAh wha?!โ€

As a Barรงa fan I adore Sergio Busquets but he can be embarrassing at times (actually a lot of the time).
Sky Sports describe him as a street fighter type player. Perfect description if they are talking about Sesame Street.

If youโ€™re going to show that Joe Sheridan goal then you should also show Louthโ€™s JP Rooney kicking the ball away from a Meath player who was trying to take a free just a few minutes beforehand, the reason so much injury time was played.
