DIEGO MARADONA ADMITS he would have punched Lionel Messi over his trickshot penalty with Luis Suarez.
Barcelona ran out comfortable 6-1 winners over Celta Vigo last month but the highlight of the game was Messi’s penalty in which he opted to pass to Luis Suarez for an easy finish from close range, instead of shooting directly.
But Maradona, who coached Messi during the 2010 World Cup with the Argentina national team, insists he would have reacted angrily as a player if he witnessed that penalty on the pitch.
“If I’d have been on the pitch for Messi’s indirect penalty, there would have been punches thrown, regardless of whether it was the A, the B, the C or the D division, for sure there would have been punches thrown,” Maradona told Fox Sports’ ’90 Minutes’ show.
How do you like your lemons, Diego?
Can’t see why you’d think Maradonna is bitter Ciara? Though Messi has won everything possible at club level with Barcelona he has yet to do it at international level like Maradonna has.
*Ciaràn
You can’t judge players from different era’s, conditioning is so different but equally club football is the pinnacle now, no national team could live with barca
I can’t agree with you on that one sorry, He took them to the World Cup final only two years ago and I expect them to go one better in two years time
Plus for me the Champions league is more competitive in the latter stages than the World Cup and he has lit that up going on ten years now and is doing so again this year.
Alan is correct in saying you can’t compare players from different eras Ciaràn. However, my comment was in reply to your comment when I said Maradona has nothing to be bitter about. I agree that the Champions League is a higher standard than the world cup nowadays but in Maradona’s day international football was better.
The Champions League might be of a higher standard than the World Cup, but its success is bought, and it completely lacks the magic.
What a ridiculous statement to make
El Diego making zero sense as per usual.
Dead right Diego
Suarez ruined it for me by not passing it to Neymar who had run next to him, that would have been remarkable and very difficult to emulate.
Yeah…you would have used your hand
That’s rich coming from a man who got away with purposely using his hand to score a goal in a world cup match…. #GlassHousesDiego
I’m inclined to agree with Maradona, but while we’re at it , comparisons between Messi and Maradona would in fairness give the big edge to Diego. Messi is arguably the greatest of this generation, but Maradona……
