A 21-YEAR-OLD MAN from Cheltenham has been arrested over the attack on Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeper Chris Kirkland in the clash between the Owls and Leeds at Hillsborough on Friday.
The former Liverpool and Wigan ‘keeper was shoved in the face after conceding a 77th minute equaliser to Neil Warnock’s side.
The unidentified man ran straight into the Leppings Lane stand after the attack but was arrested shortly before 1pm on Sunday.
A spokesman for Gloucester Police said: “The investigation is being led by South Yorkshire Police. The man currently remains in police custody.”
“I felt the full force and I was just shocked because you never know what could have been in his hands,” the 31-year-old Kirkland said afterwards.
