2007 Allstar Kevin McCloy hails medical staff for saving his life at club match

The former Derry player collapsed in a club game last week.

FORMER DERRY CAPTAIN Kevin McCloy has thanked the medical staff who saved his life at a club game last Wednesday night.

McCloy collapsed during a club match between his own side Lavey when they were in action against Magherafelt in Owenbeg in a Derry SFC game.

The 35 year-old was taken to Altnagelvin hospital and thankfully regained consciousness last Friday.

McCloy and his wife Cathy have now paid tribute to the medical staff in an official statement on the Lavey GAA website.

“Kevin and Cathy would like to thank all the physio’s, doctors and paramedics for their quick thinking and life saving efforts at the scene. It was these actions along with the defibrillator that ultimately saved Kevin’s life.”We would also like to thank everyone for their prayers and support over the last week.
“Kevin’s condition is improving thanks to the excellent care he is receiving at Altnagelvin Hospital.”

The match was subsequently abandoned after McCloy collapsed and has been refixed for tomorrow night and while admission is free, there will be voluntary donations accepted for the Cormac Trust, which was set up after the sudden death in 2004 of Tyrone’s Cormac McAnallen.

“We would ask that everyone would support the Cormac Trust at Thursday’s match, in whatever way they can,” urged Kevin and Cathy.”Lastly, good luck to the boys on Thursday night.”
