Klopp: 'West Brom decided not to water the pitch at half-time and that makes it difficult'

Liverpool let a 2-0 lead slip as West Brom snatched a draw at The Hawthorns.

JURGEN KLOPP BLAMED West Bromwich Albionโ€™s failure to water the Hawthorns pitch for the late collapse Liverpool suffered in their 2-2 draw on Saturday.

Kloppโ€™s side took a two-goal lead thanks to strikes from Danny Ings and Mohamed Salah, but they were rocked by Albionโ€™s dramatic fightback.

Jake Livermore got one back with 11 minutes left before Salomon Rondon equalised in the 88th minute.

It was a frustrating warm-up for next weekโ€™s Champions League semi-final first leg against Roma and seemed to put Klopp in a bad mood.

The Reds boss expressed disappointment with Albionโ€™s decision not to water their pitch, bemoaned referee Stuart Atwellโ€™s refusal to send off Ahmed Hegazi for appearing to punch Ings and claimed Liverpool should have had a penalty.

โ€œIt was a difficult game as the pitch got drier and drier. West Brom decided not to water the pitch at half-time and that makes it difficult,โ€ Klopp groaned.

โ€œIt makes a massive difference. A team like West Brom do not need a wet pitch, they can do it next year playing on a dry pitch in the Championship.โ€

Asked about Hegaziโ€™s clash with Ings, Klopp added: โ€œThe analyst showed it to me, I donโ€™t have to say anything about that, I donโ€™t know why he did it, there is no reason.โ€

On Ingsโ€™ penalty appeal, Klopp said: โ€œPeople laugh at Ings when he goes down, but I donโ€™t know anyone who doesnโ€™t go down in that situation.

โ€œWe need the right decisions, everything would be fine and we win 3-0 or 3-1.โ€

Load of crap from Klopp. His team were 2 0 up with 15mins to go against the team bottom of the league. Im sure the pitch didnโ€™t bother him then. Maybe he should look at his decision to take off the front men and invite West Brom on to Liverpool. He completely underestimated their inevitable desire to fight until they are relegated. He also, AGAIN, overestimated his own teamโ€™s ability to defend set pieces.

Okay, no doubt LFC thought the game was won at 2-0 and started thinking about the Champions League semi final they have this week, a game literally every other team in England would want to be playing in, and so switched off with fifteen minutes to go, but West Brom should have had both Rondon and Heghazi sent off (the latter twice), fouled almost three times as often as Liverpool, gave away a stonewall penalty, and yet the only yellow card went to Moreno? Christ. Thereโ€™s going easy on a team thatโ€™s about to be relegated, and thereโ€™s forgetting to ref them altogether.

@James Doyle: โ€œa game literally any other team would want to be inโ€ You just had to throw it in there didnโ€™t you, despite how irrelevant it is haha

Donโ€™t forget some of these players were fringe players who want to play for a place in the CL lineup. So enough with the excuses.

@Brian: of course I had to โ€œthrow that inโ€. Thatโ€™s the context here. Just because that reality discommodes idiots trying to take pleasure out of the result (especially when itโ€™s a draw, FFS) isnโ€™t my problem.

And nobody actually thinks Ragnar, Gomez or Moreno had a chance of making that team. Not even them.

@James Doyle: they collapsed from 2-0 up mate. They didnโ€™t โ€œswitch offโ€ with 15 minutes to go. And if they did thatโ€™s a serious problem not only as a footballers but as human beings.

So with 15 minutes to go they literally stopped thinking about the game they were in and about what will happen in 72 hours.

Did spurs players start thinking about what they wanted for dinner at half time in the cup?

Stop making excuses, they just make you look stupid.

What a load of b*lox. Fair play to West Brom for not watering the pitch. Well within their rights. Taking an advantage where they can. All within the rules ad far as Iโ€™m aware

Letโ€™s hope Roma water the pitch in the second leg ? What a stupid excuse ? Call it as it is , they canโ€™t defend a lead or a set piece . Klavan is only a moderate player , Gomez wonโ€™t get in the team on that display . Ok , they should have had a penno , and West Brom guy should have got red , but do your job and ask questions later !
