Northern Ireland striker banned for headbutting his own team-mate

Josh Magennis was playing for Kilmarnock over the weekend.

JOSH MAGENNIS HAS been hit with a two-match ban from the Scottish Football Assocation (SFA) for head-butting Kilmarnock team-mate Jamie Hamill.

The pair went head-to-head after Magennis conceded a free-kick during Kilmarnock’s 4-1 victory over Partick Thistle on Saturday, a match which ensured that Killie would avoid the Scottish Premiership relegation play-off spot.

The SFA has taken a dim view of the incident and has subsequently decided to sanction Magennis. The 24-year-old from Down, who’s been capped 11 times by Northern Ireland, has until Wednesday to accept his punishment or to appeal the suspension.

However, Kilmarnock manager Gary Locke played down the incident: “I thought they were trying to give each other a kiss to be honest. It showed that the two of them were desperate to win.

“As long as it doesn’t step over the mark then I don’t need to step in. And I thought they both produced fantastic performances. We should be talking about that.”

What an absolute legend who won it all as a sprinter. If anyone hasn’t seen the documentary Never Enough, take a look. Very insightful into what a brutal sport cycling is, and his struggles with depression.

@Kevin Dillon: yes it also shows how much of an assh0le the man is. Didn’t have many friends in the peloton in his career

@Ellis Dewald: well if that’s what you got from that documentary I feel sorry for you. Just heard Hincapie on a podcast and he was saying how he was not just a great cyclist, but a great person, and was well respected in the peleton. Should I believe you or George Hincapie?

@Kiersn OConnor: Amazing rider but to be honest always thought he was a pr*ck. Pog has shown how to win with style and grace and that it doesn’t have to be win at all costs.
