Whoever is in charge of personnel at Munster should be shown the door. No way should a tighhead in his peak be not resigned. Along with other poor additions such as Van Grann etc
@Blindside: he’s been steady from a young 20 year old right now until his mid 30s, he’s not and never will be a world beater.
@Blindside: But he’s not in his peak. Used to be sub TH for Ireland but in the panel recently. Archer no1 TH now at Munster. All he’s doing now is blocking game time for Knox & Salanoa and any other young TH in Munster.
Hope it goes well for him at Wasps.
@TL55: meant not in the panel
@Blindside: maybe the player himself would like a change of clubs before his career is over.
@Blindside: In fairness, other than DdA, is anyone leaving that wouldn’t have been shown the door long ago at the likes of Leinster? Hangers on need to ride off into the sunset and let the youth become the squad players and stake their claim for starting berths. Ryan is a genuine loss but shouldn’t be starting next season, so good move for him and for the youth behind him. It’s easier to shed the middle of the road players now too as there isn’t a massive clash between URC and 6N, so less experienced depth is required.
Great operator. Always strange that he was regarded so highly by Schmidt but was often behind Archer for Munster.
Knox and Salanoa might have higher ceilings in terms of the modern prop. Munster have invested in them, time to rip the plaster off and start playing them.
In terms of retaining Archer or Ryan, Ryan obviously had the market value to leave and hope hes gotten a nice contract to finish his career at wasps. Could play plenty of games for them
Overcome alot to be a key player for a number of years. Will be missed.
He’ll be missed. He was a good scrummager for us.
I am not happy
@kieran horgan: Why? Prefer if it was Archer or sorry that it’s not both?
@TL55: Archer should’ve been retired alongside the likes of Duncan Williams. Thankfully, he’s one of the last remnants of the “appearances = valuable experience” mentality at Munster.
Players leaving in droves, coaches halfway out the door, yet still, people think we should be winning trophies, sort of bonkers, doing pretty well to be where we are considering really. It’s Munster tho, always a curveball in terms of expectations. Sorry to see Ryan go, class, old school prop, maybe they have an incoming we don’t know about or are gonna back the youngers.
@thesaltyurchin: I’m hoping there is no incoming tight head unless Rowntree feels those youngsters are not up to it.
It’s scannell and archer who need to move not Ryan
Just surprised he’s not going to Bath
@Reg: VG has been selecting Archer over him so why would he want to follow him there?
