TIPPERARY STAR JOHN ‘Bubbles’ O’Dwyer has revealed that he received abusive letters earlier this year targeting him and his family.
Bubbles was one of Tipp’s All-Ireland heroes on Sunday as he scored a brilliant 1-5 against Kilkenny.
And afterwards he said: “I had my doubters at the start of the year. I think I’m after proving my doubters wrong here now.”
The Killenaule man elaborated on those comments on Twitter as Tipp’s celebrations continued on Monday morning.
“Thanks to everyone for the messages and support. It’s [been] unreal. What a day, what a win. This is just the start of it.
“And to the people who sent me some lovely letters at the start of the year abusing me and my family, I’d love to meet ye now. #veryquiet”

The 24-year-old made headlines in the immediate aftermath of Sunday’s win when, live on RTÉ, he declared Tipp “champions of fucking Ireland.”
“I would like to apologise to RTÉ GAA and The Sunday Game for my slip of the tongue yesterday,” he said and tagged in Irish Olympic boxer Michael Conlan to add, “It happens the best of us.”

A tad disappointed to see Eddie take the Cuala job. It’s a bit of a handy number really. I can understand his frustrations in Laois but this feels like a cop out. What he wouldn’t bring to a Carlow, Westmeath, Meath etc. It also saddens me to think that Cuala have the big bucks to throw at the big names and Eddie has probably been tempted by the €s.
@Johnny B: Tempted by €s? Is that such a bad thing? If he had taken over a county team with a few bob there would be purists implying he’s a mercenary too. He’s endured a tough time coping with the structures in Laois. Can’t blame him for joining a well run club with good players where he will probably do more for his reputation that spinning his wheels at a Carlie, Westmeath, Meath etc.
