Konta carries home hopes at Wimbledon after seeing off two-time champion

Meanwhile, Roger Federer, Rafa Nadal and Novak Djokovic eased into the quarter-finals at SW19.

BRITAINโ€™S JOHANNA KONTA continues to carry home hopes at Wimbledon, as she pulled off a memorable last-16 win on Centre Court this afternoon, defeating two-time champion Petra Kvitova.

Czech sixth seed Kvitova, in the fourth round for the first time since she won the second of her titles in 2014, bows out leaving just two of the top 10 seeds in the womenโ€™s singles remaining; Simona Halep and Elina Svitolina.

Konta, who reached the French Open semi-finals earlier this year, recovered from a set down to record a 4-6, 6-2, 6-4 victory which sees her advance to a quarter-final against 33-year-old Czech Barbora Strycova on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Roger Federer, Rafa Nadal and Novak Djokovic stormed into the quarter-finals with straightforward victories on Monday afternoon.

Eight-time champion Federer breezed past Italyโ€™s Matteo Berrettini 6-1, 6-2, 6-2 in just 74 minutes to make sure of a spot in his 55th quarter-final at the Slams.

It was also his 99th win at the All England Club.

At 37, he is the oldest man to reach the last eight at the majors since 39-year-old Jimmy Connors at the 1991 US Open.

Nadal reached the quarter-finals for the seventh time, outclassing Joao Sousa of Portugal 6-2, 6-2, 6-2.

The Spaniard will play Sam Querrey in what will be his 39th appearance in a Grand Slam quarter-final.

Defending champion Djokovic reached his 11th Wimbledon quarter-final and 45th at the majors with a 6-3, 6-2, 6-3 win over Franceโ€™s Ugo Humbert.

Four-time champion and top seed Djokovic will face Belgiumโ€™s David Goffin for a place in the semi-finals.

Spot on again Nelly. Itโ€™s only non Cork people who canโ€™t admit to that and also canโ€™t see how they are the laughing stock of the GAA world now as they canโ€™t fight like men for promotion but instead have to get their daddy (Frank Murphy) to mind them and get them a free pass so they donโ€™t throw all their toys out of the pram, again!!

Sure didnโ€™t the Kilkenny CB support the new league proposals, Steve. Did you take it up with them them instead of spamming this place with your repetitive drivel or were Ned Quinn & Co. too busy concocting conspiracy theories ? And Frank Murphy is a Kilkennyman. And you can see it by his latest attempts to destroy Cork hurling by appointing that incompetent fool Kenneally to the U21 hurlers job and underachieving areskisser Cuthbert to the senior football job. Frank is the best friend the Powder Pissers have.

Kilkenny can support what they want as they are league champions. Kilkenny will be in the top division regardless. Cork are the gutless ones looking for an easy out!!

Paul would you leave Nelly and Steve alone, youโ€™d have a โ€œchip on your shoulderโ€ too if you were not from Cork.

Kilkenny being league champions is completely and utterly irrelevant. The point is that the Kilkenny county board supported the league proposals put forward, the ones you are alleging every day by spamming this site are yet another Cork conspiracy., If itโ€™s a conspiracy, Kilkenny are in on it too. Why donโ€™t you spam them?

Of course Cork are supporting the new proposals as it promotes them without them having to play a match. Crazy decision from the GAA
